So we're a little disorganized - we had a great lunch.
On June 03, at noon, we went to the Davie Village Cafe
on Davie Street in Vancouver and had a fabulous lunch.
The place is the second floor of one of the few remaining
houses on Davie street (or, indeed, anywhere in the
downtown core). It has the original hardwood floors,
with the parquay edge detailing. It is painted a sunny
yellow, and the decor is Studies in Brown of the
Male Nude.
The food was excellent - my SOGP had huevos
rancheros, I had a salmon salad, Jessie had a seafood
melt, Jean had eggs bennie, and Lesley had melted
brie on a bagel, served with fresh fruit. It was hard
to choose from the menu - there were so many options.
We talked about a lot of things - although I don't think
we talked about anything Pratchetty even once. We
discussed impending bifocalhood. We discussed jobs.
Jessie has been caught in one of those all-too-frequent
corporate mergers - and while they have all been *assured*
that their jobs will stay here, what is meant is that *a* job
will be here, not the job the person had. Evil bastards.
I'm beginning to think it may be necessary to boycott
any company whose greedy merger leads to loss of
jobs or job stability - except that one would end up
being unable to buy anything. But it's wrong, and
shouldn't be tolerated. *ahem* Where was I?
So, we plan to meet again in July, although we are
not sure where yet. Lesley has raised an important
issue: the first Saturday in July (01) is a long weekend
and the actual Canada Day day, so things might just
be a little ugly - or it might make it easier for other
people to join us. The alternative would be to meet
on the second Saturday (08).
What date would suit everyone best, and what are
some suggestions for venue?
April.

We really should announce these meets, even if it's only the three of us and
assorted partners that turn up. There are plenty of Pratchett fans in
Vancouver, and some of them may be about to discover afp, or may be already
lurking, not to mention at least one in Victoria [1]. So they might want to
come too.

Either is fine for me, and I'm not fussy about the venue.
[1] Are you there, Brian?

Announce away, and if I can I'll join you. I work most weekends, but
you might hit one where I have a vacation so attending might be an option.
Since I parachuted into this group I've enjoyed the chat. It might be
interesting to put a face or two to the names.

Yay! Another victi...er..participant! Do you have a preference? Will
you get the stat, or a day off in lieu? Don't be shy, let us know what
will/won't work for you.
Jessie, what would suit you best?
April.

Ok, here's a rough outline of how it 'usually' works. I mostly have
Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. Sometimes I get either Monday or Thursday
as well. On Tuesday I pick up my daughter from school and take her to
ballet and wait with her until she gets picked up to go home. The end
result is that Tuesday until about 1:30 is good, Wednesday is good.
Evenings are occasionally possible if I have a morning shift.
I work most Stat holidays.
I'm working on the 1st of July, but might get the following Monday off,
unless the schedule writer changes the one I submit in a day or two.
I hope this helps a bit without being overly restrictive.

And now, being my usual difficult self, I have remembered that the whole
Canada day weekend is no good for me. Which leaves the eighth or some other
day altogether. Or you guys could go ahead without me this time, though that
would make me sad.
